Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

ClearWifi is a lightweight WiFi analysis and speed test app. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is handled.

No Personal Data Collection

ClearWifi does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There are no accounts, no analytics SDKs, no advertising networks, and no third-party authentication services in the app.

Permissions

ClearWifi requests the following Android permissions:

WiFi Scanning Data

When you grant location permission, ClearWifi reads nearby WiFi network information (SSID, BSSID, signal strength, channel, and security type) from Android’s WiFi subsystem. This data is displayed on-screen and never leaves your device. It is not stored persistently, not logged, and not transmitted anywhere.

Speed Test Data

Speed tests are powered by M-Lab (Measurement Lab), an open-source, non-profit measurement platform backed by Google, Cloudflare, Mozilla, and the Internet Society. When you run a speed test:

Local Storage

Speed test results and WiFi signal snapshots may be stored locally on your device using a local database (Room). This data never leaves your device and is used solely to show your history within the app. You can clear it at any time by clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings.

No Backend Servers

ClearWifi does not operate any backend servers. All functionality runs entirely on your device, with the exception of speed tests which communicate with M-Lab’s open infrastructure.

Children’s Privacy

ClearWifi does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted here. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
